Students from the California Academy of Math and Science (CAMS) are currently working on a RISE Project to educate their community about the harms of the fast fashion industry. To encourage their schoolmates to support eco-friendly fashion, they hosted a clothing drive at their school to collect old or unwanted clothes that they turned in tote bags. This team also participated in the Carson Kids Earth Day Fest to showcase their "upcycled" tote bags, hand out pamphlets with facts about the fast fashion industry, and collect more clothes for their project. During this event, the CAMS team collected nine full trash bags of clothes! They plan to donate any extra clothes and tote bags they create to libraries and community centers to keep them out of the landfill. |
