Credit: EPA | Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Friday marks a major escalation in its conflict with the Lebanese militant group and its backer, Iran. The country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has announced five days of mourning, saying Nasrallah's blood "will not go unavenged". For Iran, which has yet to retaliate for the July assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, Nasrallah's death represents another blow. As security correspondent Frank Gardner reports, Khamenei has gone into hiding. Despite recording its biggest victory yet against Hezbollah, Israel has continued to strike Lebanon - including, on Monday, Hamas's leader Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin. Israel has also targeted Houthis in Yemen. Its air force said it hit power plants and a port along the Red Sea coastline on Sunday.
Hassan Nasrallah: A shadowy figure with close personal links to Iran, the 64-year-old played a key role in turning Hezbollah into the political and military force it is today.
