If you are trying to grow peaches from seed the first thing to know is that the new peach may not be the one you started with. The seed will be whatever they grafted to which sometimes is smaller but tasty.

Mr. Red in the Snow (Hummingbird)
By suz1230
Snow in Las Vegas is so rare. It's fun watching the hummingbirds have so much fun in it. They've never seen or been in it before, so it's quite a treat for them. They're all flying really fluttery enjoying the feel of it too. They're hovering in it, and swooping low to the ground to check it all out and really having a fun time letting the feathery light snow land on them.

If your deck or balcony is not very private, you can create a living privacy wall with a trellis and a fast growing vine such as climbing spinach, squash, or gourds.

When putting in new windows, think about a "garden window" in the kitchen! We are enjoying springtime in the winter with our new garden window and have enjoyed growing fresh parsley, mint and other seasonings.

Recycled Popcorn Lid as Plant Saucer
By Judy
Once I recycled my popcorn tin as a trash basket, I wondered what I could do with the lid. I decided to use it to catch any water that drained out of my large houseplant. I put some felt furniture protectors on the bottom, so it wouldn't scratch my coffee table.

Reusing Broken Terra Cotta Planters
When one of my terra cotta planters crack, or break, I take a hammer and remove the broken side and then place the good half in front of a plant in my garden.

Using Straw For Low Maintenance Garden
For a low maintenance garden I cover my garden with straw. It keeps the weeds away keeps the soil moist all the time. I grow my potatoes in a pile made from straw. It produced the best ever crop for me last year 2004.

This little bear vase was $.25 at a flea market. The least expensive one was $.10. I collect small vases to share flowers from the garden with children to take home to mom or dad. I also use any containers I can find to start cuttings for anyone to take.

This Week's QuestionsMamma Duck Won't Sit on Eggs Inside an EnclosureI had a Muscovy duck lay eggs in my front yard about 2 months ago and they got destroyed by a predator (probably a raccoon). So when I saw the nest getting used again and there were 12 eggs in it with the mother sitting on them, I kept an eye on it. Later 4 of the eggs were eaten. I built a cage around the area using simple strips of wood and chicken wire. But now she won't sit on the nest.Identifying a HouseplantDistinguishing Between Pothos and PhilodendronIdentifying a HouseplantTransplanting an Avocado Tree Grown from a SeedI live in Michigan and I sprouted a Mexican avocado seed. I planted it in a 16oz. plastic cup. It's about 1' tall and I'm not sure when I should transplant it into a bigger container. It looks really healthy. I will be raising it in my house. So do they like the sun or are they like more shade? I'm feeding it Miracle Gro and it loves it. I have it in my south window.Caring for Elephant Ears in the SpringI did not remove my elephant ear bulbs this year, but I am in zone 9. What do I do now? The base of the plant is sticking up quite far and I do not know if I should add more dirt or what?ThriftyFun Contests! This newsletter is powered by you!
