Humanoid Robot Goes Berserk After ‘Coding Error’ |
It’s 2025, and we’ve officially unlocked a new flavor of nightmare fuel. A video of ahumanoid robot going berserk has gone viral, fueling tech fears of robots taking over. In the video, two engineers from an undisclosed Chinese factory are seen observing the robot, in what looks like a routine test or inspection. A few seconds later, the robot suddenly begins violently flailing its arms at one of the engineers. Even more unsettling, it seemed to be deliberately moving toward him, as if it were executing a premeditated attack straight out of a sci-fi thriller. Fortunately, the engineers were able to subdue the robot by putting its stand back into place, seemingly calming it down and ending the attack. |
Some reports have identified the machine as the Unitree H1 Full-Size Universal Humanoid Robot and suggested that a coding error caused the outburst. Why it matters: Given the vast advancements we’ve seen in both robotics and artificial intelligence, the incident is a visceral reminder of the importance of implementing proper safeguards and precautions with emerging technologies. It also highlights the need for stricter oversight and testing protocols in real-world deployment scenarios. Otherwise, your 9-to-5 might include dodging haymakers from the office cyborg. |

Could Meta’s AI Ads Spell The End for the Ad Industry? |
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has broached the idea of replacing whole ad teams with AI, sparking widespread debate over the role of AI-generated content in the ad industry. “We’re going to get to a point where you’re a business, you come to us, you tell us what your objective is, you connect to your bank account, you don’t need any creative, you don’t need any targeting demographic, you don’t need any measurement, except to be able to read the results that we spit out,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with Stratechery. |
Zuckerberg’s response coincides with Meta’s current push to integrate AI tools for advertisers on its platform. Currently, advertisers can use AI on Facebook to generate text or create tailored backgrounds, among other things. However, this direction is much more drastic since it implies removing whole advertising and creative teams from the mix. This trend further exacerbates today’s challenging job market, especially as companies continue to integrate AI in their day-to-day operations. Hey AI, help sell me this pen! |

Messaging App Used by Former Trump Advisor Hacked |
TeleMessage, a messaging app used by former Trump National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, was recently hacked. According to 404 Media, the hacker stole data snapshots that included sensitive communications between U.S. government officials and financial institutions. |
TeleMessage is an app that allows users to archive chats from encrypted messaging services like Signal and WhatsApp. Per reports, TeleMessage’s archived chat logs were not end-to-end encrypted, allowing the threat actor to access the stolen data. Due to the breach, TeleMessage’s parent company, Smarsh Inc., has announced that it would temporarily suspend all TeleMessage services. On the bright side, at least someone finally read the terms and conditions. |
Microsoft: Helm Charts Are Easy to Use—and Easy to Misconfigure |
Microsoft security researchers have warned against using out-of-the-box Helm charts to spin up applications in Kubernetes, pointing out that these “plug-and-play” options often prioritize ease of use over security. In a post on the Microsoft Defender for Cloud blog, the researchers said that while these pre-made deployment templates simplify the application setup process, they result in applications “being deployed in a misconfigured state by default.” This misconfiguration leaves sensitive data, cloud resources, or even the entire environment at risk of being compromised. Like my grandma used to say, review configurations before you deploy. |
IT Workforce Shrinks as AI Roles Multiply |
The employment rate for the IT industry in the U.S. fell to 4.6% in April, with one unfortunate caveat: The dip was caused by the shrinking number of IT professionals in the sector. According to the Wall Street Journal, IT roles dropped to 119,000 from 133,000 in March. This decline comes amid a surge of AI-related jobs, which rose by as much as 184% in just the past year. |

According to Janco Associates CEO Victor Janulaitis, many midlevel IT professionals were let go for their lack of “artificial intelligence experience.” As many companies go "AI-first," the global workforce is changing before our eyes. Today, AI literacy is no longer optional—it’s expected. On the bright side, fewer IT jobs means fewer people to Slack you “quick question?” at 4:59 p.m. |
