A Message From the Editor My phone’s about three years old at this point, which in Actual Time is not long. But in Technology Time it may mean it’s from the Mesozoic Era. When I bought it, I figured that 32 GB of internal storage was more than enough for what I’d need. Now, I find myself deleting old pictures and songs I never listen to just to download a new app. The data explosion is real, and it’s moving at a pace that even many experts knowledgeable about tech couldn’t have anticipated. That’s why it’s not surprising to me that, in a recent BDO survey, 61 percent of those in large organizations considered big data to be the e-discovery related issue that would have the greatest business impact. Forward-thinking executives are concerned about an eventual data overload. As BDO’s George Socha told LTN’s Frank Ready, “They could be looking at all of this and saying, ‘If we don’t start spending some more money now to try to get our arms around this and try to more effectively control this, it’s going to explode beyond any level we can control.’” So the question becomes, where to start? We explore that and more in this week’s Editor’s Picks. – Zach Warren, editor-in-chief, Legaltech News |
