Bad Apples: CBP makes a critical error Customs is a critical part of international shipments and travel — but even Customs and Border Protection agents aren’t immune to mistakes. In fact, a recent error that happened at JFK airport led to a highly embarrassing and public exchange in front of millions of Twitter users. On Sunday, September 14, CBP posted a tweet claiming that it had successfully intercepted "2,000 counterfeit Apple AirPods from Hong Kong, valued at $398K had they been genuine." Unfortunately for CBP, they weren’t counterfeit at all. In fact, they were simply genuine lookalike products designed by smartphone manufacturer OnePlus. In response, the company took to Twitter and replied to the CBP tweet with the words “Hey, give those back!” along with an upside-down smiley face emoji. The tweets have now been shared countless times, but there’s no word as to whether CBP is returning the headphones or not. We assume someone has some explaining to do. At least CBP didn’t accidentally seize these headphones. Tap or click here to see what Louis Vuitton’s $995 headphones sound like. → |
