Hi John!

(Don't forget to use THANKS21 for 20% off all my original drawings, paintings, cartoons, sophias, Christs, and all prints.)

OKAY... so...

Are you afraid of being wrong?

I've been thinking a lot about this for the past week.

I'm going to share my thoughts about that in a second.

But first some highlights from the past week I want to share with you.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

This one's personal LOL:

Q: What do you call a factory that makes okay products?

A: A satisfactory!

CARTOON OF THE WEEK

"Do You Believe in My God?"

I love the power of a single image to convey a thought or a feeling.

So many people looked at this cartoon and were like, "Wow! That's so true! I never thought about it like that!"

Or... I'm going to Hell for drawing it.

What do you think?

POST OF THE WEEK

"Can You Tell Which Family Member Stopped Going to Church?"

I posted this older cartoon because of so many people returning home for the holidays.

Many were going to have to endure the discomfort of being analyzed by their more religious families.

Quite a few stories were shared.

Some humorous, some touching, some sad.

PAINTING OF THE WEEK

"Wait For Me"

This is an acrylic and ink on 10"x20"x2" canvas.

This tree symbolizes how we can be misunderstood. We might look useless to some people. But we know we are just hibernating. We are taking a break. We are in repose. We are waiting.

And we want you to wait for us too.

Your Fear of Being Wrong

I hear from people all the time who are terrified.

They are deconstructing. Questioning their beliefs. Adjusting their relationship to the Church. Changing their association with religion.

And they're scared.

"What if I'm wrong?", they ask.

I respond, "So... what if you are?" Or, "What if there is no right and wrong?"

Here's the thing I learned about beliefs a long time ago:

Implanted in the belief is the threat of punishment for not believing it.

Beliefs are totalitarian and dictatorial. Always!

You are either 100% on board and rewarded for it or 100% not on board and punished for it. Black or white.

So when we question a belief we must also question its power over our lives.

Because they come together, the must go together.

Do you still struggle with the fear of being wrong?

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Be thankful for what you have. Be fearless for what you want." (Rebecca Minkoff, Fearless: The New Rules for Unlocking Creativity, Courage, and Success.)

I really appreciated this last sentence in Minkoff's book. She's a designer, as some of you may know. It's her story of perseverance for success. My goodness, she didn't have it easy! I really do believe if it wasn't for her dogged tenacity and resilience we would never have heard of her.

She's earned her spot.

And I loved this last sentence because it seems to sum up her life well, and encourages me to thankful and fearless.

A FINAL NOTE

I DO LOVE HEARING BACK FROM YOU!

I get wonderful responses to my emails.

It means a lot that you aren't just reading them, but digesting them and motivated to respond to me.

Yes, I'm a person. These aren't auto-curated and auto-sent.

This is all me... David.

And I like to connect with all of you.

I hope you're having a good weekend.

Much love, my friends.

David
