❄️ Heavy snow showers are persisting in portions of Minnesota early Thursday, but the snow will begin to lift north and taper off toward midday. Southern Minnesota remains locked in the grip of high winds and heavy snow from overnight. Many businesses, school buildings and offices remain closed from the multiday storm. Conditions are expected to ease later Thursday but morning commuters will face a tough trek. | |

60 exchange students from Japan arrive in Minnesota just in time for winter storm. When a group of 60 students flew from Japan to Minnesota on Saturday as part of a cultural exchange program through the St. Paul Intercultural Institute, they knew they might see snow at some point.
Efforts underway to expand the face of youth hockey in Minnesota. Minnesota, widely known as the State of Hockey, has the nation’s largest youth and high school hockey programming. But the sport remains heavily white, even as Minnesota becomes more diverse. According to Minnesota Hockey, 86 percent of players under 8 years old are white. Today, 34 percent of children ages 5-9 in the state are youth of color, according to nonprofit demographer Minnesota Compass.
Harding High stabbing renews debate over cops in St. Paul schools . While safety wasn’t on the St. Paul school board’s official meeting agenda Tuesday night, it dominated the public comment period.
Patient navigators help people of color get better cancer care, research shows. Patients at Mayo Clinic say that “patient navigators” — that is, individualized clinical guides —have helped them enroll in clinical trials, find payment assistance, and get on a path toward healing. Research shows the practice is also one of the only ways to reduce racial disparities in cancer care.
