⛅ The second cool front of the week is pushing warm, humid air out ahead of it for Thursday. We’ll see afternoon highs well into the 80s across southern Minnesota. Dew points will also be pretty humid, hovering around 70 degrees. 🌩️ Thunderstorms will develop ahead of the front in western Minnesota. Those storms will sweep east through the late afternoon and evening. Storms that develop could become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and large hail. | | Minnesota school test scores stabilize but COVID’s effects linger | Minnesota’s K-12 public school math and reading scores remain largely unchanged since the COVID 19-era drop, according to newly released data from the state Education Department. One positive sign? School attendance rates are rising again. State education officials noted that school attendance rates did improve — about 75 percent of students were attending school consistently in 2023, up from 70 percent the prior year. Student attendance and achievement are strongly linked, and attendance rates took a big hit during the pandemic. | |

| What else we're watching: | 💧 State looks to limit ‘forever chemicals’ in wastewater from 3M’s Cottage Grove plant. It will be the first time Minnesota has required an industry to limit PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, in its wastewater. 3M’s Cottage Grove plant, the epicenter of the global PFAS problem, has been operating under a permit than expired more than 20 years ago. 🌾 Job Interview: How a college stats teacher became the State Fair crop art superintendent. One of the most popular attractions at the Minnesota State Fair is crop art. Last year, curators got 240 submissions from seed artists. This year, that number went up to more than 350. So the fair decided it was time to hire someone dedicated to the exhibit. 🪑 Harris' first sit-down interview as nominee airs Thursday with pressure building. Vice President Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are sitting down for a joint interview airing at Thursday evening on CNN. It’s the first interview Harris is giving since President Biden dropped out of the race. 🚌 Trump to visit swing districts in Michigan and Wisconsin. Trump’s intense focus on recapturing states he won in 2016 but lost narrowly in 2020 continues with stops in the middle of Michigan and western Wisconsin. He will visit La Crosse, Wis., for a town hall. 🧀 Biden plans to travel to Wisconsin next week to highlight energy policies and efforts to lower costs. President Joe Biden plans to travel to southwest Wisconsin on Sept. 5, using a visit focused on small towns and rural areas to highlight his policies to lower costs and encourage renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. 💅 'Very demure, very mindful' trademark issue is 'handled,' TikTok influencer says. No more tears over a trademark snafu for Jools Lebron. In a video posted on her TikTok this week, the cashier-turned-social media star says simply, “We got it handled and I’m gonna leave it at that … Mama’s got a team now!”
