Coming up on Morning Edition | 🎪 For two decades, the Minnesota State Fair has chosen a local artist to create a work of art to represent the Great Minnesota Get-Together. The fair would sell posters and limited edition prints of the artworks each year, and the original artwork would go on view at the Fine Art Exhibition. That program is no more. MPR News arts reporter Alex V. Cipolle explains what happened. 🌺 Did you know that Minnesota’s state flower — the lady's slipper — comes in six varieties? Flower chasers Kelly Povo and Phyllis Root take us on their journey, tromping through the bogs of Iron Springs, just northwest of Lake Itasca, in search of these elusive orchids. 🌩️ And, how do you stay safe in remote, outdoor areas of Minnesota, like the Boundary Waters Canoe Area up north, when severe weather strikes? | | Minneapolis resolution passes, school focused on Native cultural education to get new home | A Minneapolis elementary school dedicated to American Indian cultural education is on track to move into its own building for the first time since the school opened almost a decade and a half ago. For the past 14 years, the school has shared a building with Anne Sullivan Middle School. Students' families and school leaders are also asking the district for dedicated busing. “This is going to be an incredible vision, not only in our district and in our state, but also in the nation,” said Adriana Cerrillo, who helped to craft the resolution as a part of her role as the board’s liaison to the American Indian community. | |
