| | U of M mulling highest tuition bump since 2010 for in-state students | The University of Minnesota may raise the cost of earning a college degree. Interim President Jeff Ettinger’s budget for the next fiscal year proposes to slap a 4.5 percent tuition hike on in-state undergraduate students studying at the Twin Cities campus. If approved by the Board of Regents, that would be the highest annual tuition increase for Minnesota residents since 2010. Students at other campuses would also pay more money. The total increase in tuition, room and board and fees for Minnesota residents would raise costs by an additional $453 to $1,552 per year, depending on the campus. For Twin Cities undergrads who reside in-state, tuition could increase by 4.5 percent to $15,148. | |

| | Dwindling timeline, ethics probe test Minnesota lawmakers ability to complete work | Two weeks remain in an election-year legislative session — and fewer days that lawmakers can take action on bills on the floor. The fate of a capital investment bill, a raft of budget bills, agreements on cannabis legislation and the potential for action on sports betting and a constitutional equal rights amendment all hang in the balance. An ethics case against DFL Sen. Nicole Mitchell could dictate how the final weeks go. That hearing Tuesday, which will also include discussion of a complaint filed last year against GOP Sen. Glenn Gruenhagen, of Glencoe, is scheduled for Tuesday. | |

| | Rochester students put a new spin on quinceañera celebration | On Saturday, a group of high school students in Rochester celebrated a traditional Mexican rite of passage — but in a non-traditional way. The student group Latinas Unidas at Mayo High School joined forces with neighboring John Marshall High School to host a “community quinceañera.” The Latines Unides club was having one of its regular meetings — just coming together and eating snacks — when their adviser gave them a push to do something big, said Rebecca Guerra Velásquez, a senior at Mayo High School and the club’s co-president. The idea for a community quinceañera was born. | |
