High temperatures Friday afternoon should be in the 30s in the north to mostly 40s in the southern half of the state. Parts of southern Minnesota could warm into the 50s. Coming up on Morning Edition: Officials in Stearns County are facing some big decisions in the coming months. The central Minnesota county needs to replace its outdated jail and expand its court space. It also needs to decide whether to keep the facilities in downtown St. Cloud. As Kirsti Marohn reports, other Minnesota counties with aging jails are facing similar costly choices.

| International Institute of Minnesota has helped thousands of refugees rebuild lives in America
| Around 400 new U.S. citizens from more than 70 countries waved the American flag and sang along to the national anthem at a naturalization ceremony held in Brooklyn Center recently, marking a new milestone in a long journey to Minnesota.
One of them is 32-year-old Shalom Mugisha who was born in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“I feel so excited that we have to get citizenship in this country with a lot of opportunities,” said Mugisha. “So blessed and so excited. I’m very happy.” | |

| Stearns County debates location of new jail, justice center
|
Stearns County officials face some major decisions on replacing its outdated jail and sheriff’s office, while adding more court space. Other Minnesota counties are facing similar costly choices, as their jails reach the end of their life expectancies and expectations of care change.
“It’s seen its age, obviously,” Sheriff Steve Soyka said. “We’ve pretty much outgrown it from a staff standpoint, but also just looking into the future.” | |
