Welcome back to winter! Pull on your longies tonight. Lows will fall to near minus 15 in the Arrowhead tonight, down near zero in the metro and the single digits southwest. Tomorrow will be sunny with highs 18 to 20. And get ready for some snow, with maybe an inch or so up north to as much as 8 inches possible in the southern regions of the state. State health officials say they want Minnesotans to lean into testing as the supply of COVID vaccine looks limited -- at least for the time being. Assistant Health Commissioner Dan Huff also said anyone who may be returning to school, especially ages 12 to 25, should get tested. "The bottom line is that is a lot of new folks engaging with people they had previously not been interacting with," Huff said.
Thirty-two reported deaths raised Minnesota’s toll to 6,011. Among those who’ve died, about 64 percent had been living in long-term care or assisted living facilities; most had underlying health problems.
The 1,292 newly confirmed or probable cases posted Thursday. Vaccinations picked up, over 6,400 in the latest data, but still less than half the daily pace from late last week. The state has now vaccinated more than 200,000 people, close to 4 percent of the eligible adult population.
