The recent event in Flint, Mich., is a devastating reminder of an even more depressing reality: Our surroundings are literally killing us. About 23 percent of the total deaths in 2012—that’s 12.6 million—were attributable to environmental risks like polluted air, dirty water, hazardous workplaces, and dangerous roads, according to a new report by the World Health Organization. |
