After two years, my luck has finally run out. I officially have COVID — and let’s just say it’s living up to its reputation. I am extremely grateful I am vaccinated and boosted right now. Even though the symptoms were miserable (“mild” doesn’t mean easy), I know that I will stay out of the hospital and avoid severe disease. That is, and always has been, the main purpose of the shots. Over the last few days, I’ve turned to many of our HuffPost Life stories for guidance. (It’s one thing to publish stories on COVID; it’s another to live it.) Specifically, our recent piece on all the treatment options, by reporter Julia Ries, really came in handy. I’m not high-risk, so I don’t qualify for prescriptions like Paxlovid, but the over-the-counter guidance saved me when I was trying to figure out what medicine to take. If you find yourself dealing with an infection, I highly recommend reading Julia’s piece below and chatting with your doctor ASAP about what treatments may work for you. And if you’re still not vaccinated or boosted, take my experience to heart and consider getting your shots. Trust me, you don’t want to face COVID unarmed. ❤️, Lindsay |
