How to help as many people as possible Dear John,
"Sales" is a dirty word for lawyers and other professionals.
Most attorneys believe "selling" is forcing yourself upon someone and "convincing" them to do something they don't want to do. Lawyers think selling is something you do "TO" someone. If this is how you feel, I have a message for you.
You're wrong.
Here's why:
You solve problems for people. You are good at it. You provide value. But nobody knows it.
You've got to tell people how you can help them.
You've got to introduce yourself to people and help them get to know you, like you, and trust you.
There are many ways, dozens of ways, maybe even hundreds of ways to do that. If you introduce yourself in a professional way, people will view you as a professional who solves problems. If you direct mail people who get speeding tickets, visit accident victims in the hospital, or plaster your face on the side of a bus, you're going to look foolish.
So here's the dilemma: How do you tell people about the value you provide and not look like you're selling avocados at a Miami traffic light?
This is what I do. I help you develop your message, match it with your strengths as a communicator, and deliver it to the right audience.
You're a good person and people need to know that you are willing to help them.

There are four aspects of our work together: - Message
- Audience
- Delivery
- Mindset
Your message must be focused and powerful. You must offer a credible solution to a specific problem in an empathetic and professional way.
The audience must be ready, willing, and able to receive your message. In other words, you've got to be offering water to a thirsty crowd. The delivery of his message is everything. A billboard is ugly and unprofessional. A referral is dignified. A postcard in a mailbox is tacky, but a whitepaper or special report, delivered via personalized letter or email is professional. Showing up at someone's door is awful, but showing up to speak at a convention is what experts do.
Your approach to this, how you think about it, means everything. Each morning when you wake up, you need to ask yourself:
"How can I help the maximum number of people today?"
That's what good people do.
You're a good person.
