The black swan of chef knives! Posted: 06 Feb 2018 11:00 AM PST There’s a certain reverence one feels looking at the S1 Gyuto Knife. It, by no means, is an ordinary kitchen knife, but is rather a product of culture, heritage, dedication, and finesse. Crafted by third generation Osaka master bladesmiths, the S1 Gyuto knife is made from pure black Japanese steel (the same material as Japanese swords) that involves 131 distinct production steps to give you a blade that looks exquisite and is obscenely sharp. Additionally, Hinoki’s techniques ensure that the knife stays sharp for longer periods of time. The S1 Gyuto comes in three variants, with different wooden handles that complement the black steel blade in both color as well as shape. Choose from Charred Walnut, American Walnut, and European Oak, for the faceted handle that’s a pleasure to hold and use as it, with sheer ease, cuts through whatever you need it to cut. Posted: 06 Feb 2018 10:13 AM PST Plenty of companies have tried to get clever with the pop-top can but this one is actually a functional twist that makes perfect, simple sense! Everyone’s experienced a drink mix up at one time or another and this packing concept, called My Can, helps to prevent that situation. After pulling up the tab, simply fold it over the rim and mark the first letter of your name to indicate that it’s your drink! Perfect for parties, you’ll never get mixed up even after a few brewskis! The My Can is a Bronze Winner of the K-Design Award for the year 2017. Designers: Binglin Wei, Fang Lu & Maoyuan Bai |
Posted: 06 Feb 2018 06:42 AM PST The “Loight” is a modern twist on the lantern designed for the great indoors! A power-saving system that’s as green as it is cute, its modular lighting units can be taken from one room to another to provide a personal footprint of light wherever you go. They create heightened awareness to power usage and encourage energy-saving habits. Better yet, each system sports four distinct colors with handsome wood detailing so everyone in your family can have one to claim their own! The most interesting feature of the system are the different sculptural charging stations. They come in wall-mount, pendant and freestanding variations to accommodate different spaces or users preferences. They’re almost unrecognizable as chargers and appear to be ornamental or artistic additions to your room. To charge, one must simply hang the light unit on the railing. Designer: Zahra Ghiasi |
So, you lost your lens-cap too? Posted: 06 Feb 2018 05:13 AM PST There are some product parts that are just designed to get lost. Caps for pens, for pen-drives, and camera lenses. However, one of them plays a much more crucial role than the other two. A camera lens can cost anywhere from hundreds to even thousands of dollars, and the lens-cap can prevent damage to that extremely precise piece of engineering and manufacturing. So what happens when you lose the lens-cap? You risk damaging expensive gear? Well, not anymore. Taking a page from the success story of those silicon lids that fit on all sorts of kitchen vessels and utensils, the KUVRD (pronounced ‘covered’) is a one-size-fits-all silicone cap that goes over any and every camera lens you have, no matter the size, or even the brand. The silicone sleeve fits even over your lens cap, giving you a seal that is water and dust proof, while also shock resistant. The silicone construction ensures that bumps and scratches are a thing of the past, while also making sure that it never falls off. Use it on the front or even the rear of your (spare) lenses to make sure they stay protected at all times. Plus, given its size, you’d have to try really hard to misplace them! Oh, casual fact… they also come with a lifetime warranty. Designer: KUVRD. |
A Stunning Scandinavian Sleeping Pod Posted: 06 Feb 2018 02:41 AM PST As if the Scandinavian landscape couldn’t get any prettier, imagine experiencing it from a cozy little pod on the back of your 4×4. Mink Campers is a funky company providing these little pods that could make any trip through Northern Europe that little bit more idyllic. They’ve created a very spacious and bright interior, fitted with a luxury queen size bed and fresh Scandinavian linen. It sounds perfect, right? How about the heated interior, the Bose sound and the wifi connectivity are some of the nice extras that come standard. Mink Campers “believe that camping is all about creating enjoyable memories with your loved ones.” And what could be more enjoyable than gazing up at the stars through the gigantic sunroof lying above that queen-sized bed, probably nothing if you’re lucky enough to be sitting under that clear night’s sky. What really gets me excited about this trailer is the rear door that opens up to reveal a stove top, makeshift kitchen counter, which is of course stocked with Scandinavian designed kitchen equipment to really fit the environment. The Mink Camper is perfect for any scenic getaway! Designers: Mink Campers & Jordi Hans Design |
Posted: 05 Feb 2018 04:00 PM PST You know how they say if you play Beethoven to plants, they grow better? Well, turns out your plants are pretty good musicians themselves! Yes, I mean that literally. The GreenNote is a speaker that connects to your plants, turning the micro-voltage energy that they give off into audio. Two biosensors are clipped to the plant’s leaves, and the extremely tiny amount of energy they give off, is converted into digital music. Touch the plant and the change in energy levels can cause the audio to change too, allowing you to be a part of this seemingly magical, music process! The GreenNote separates into two parts. The upper part houses a wireless speaker which can be detached and carried around the house, while the lower part, aptly made from wood, connects to the plant via two biosensors. The lower hub is responsible for turning that negligible amount of electric current into beautifully calming ambient audio that is sure to soothe your soul. If you don’t believe me, watch the video above! Maybe this was what Julie Andrews meant when she said that the hills are alive with the sound of music! Designer: GreenNote |
Lightning charger that lets you have it all Posted: 05 Feb 2018 02:00 PM PST In the rare moment that you want to charge both your iPad Pro and your Apple Pencil at the same time, or your iPhone as well as your iPad and your Airpods, you’ll thank the gods for giving you something like the Node. It saves you the need to find separate USB ports or plug-points. A single Node can be plugged into any two devices with the lightning port (your iPhone/Airpods/iPad/Magic-Mouse/Keyboard) and it also lets you plug your Apple Pencil in, effectively letting one charger and a single Node power up to three devices, because let’s face it, if you own an Apple product, chances are you own more than one. Don’t let those pesky lithium-ion batteries get the better of you next time! The Node literally puts the power back into the consumer’s hands… and devices! Designer: Ilovehandles |
