Posted: 05 Jan 2018 06:57 AM PST There are two steps I take before venturing outdoors. Sunscreen, and a mosquito repellent. The sunscreen is more of a precaution, but there’s a whole world of regret that awaits you if you skip out on the mosquito repellent. What if, like you do indoors, you could push a button and drive the mosquitoes away? That was pretty much the design brief behind the Radius, a portable mosquito repelling gizmo that gives you a 110 square foot zone of safety from nasty bites, terrible rashes, and diseases. The Radius was designed to give you instant safety from the rising tide of mosquitoes outdoors. With temperatures rising across the world, mosquitoes end up breeding faster and living longer, not to mention the birth of new diseases practically every year. The aim of Radius was to be a quick-action and long-lasting solution to other mosquito repellents. No more sprays and creams, or mosquito repellent tags that just work for half a day. The Radius protects every inch of your body from mosquitoes at the literal press of a button. Its repellent creates a 10ft. wide spherical barrier against mosquitoes (enough to protect 2 or more people), while the battery on the inside can power up the repellent for up to 40 hours. Radius uses an EPA-approved advanced pyrethroid that is highly effective, scent-free and is activated at a low temperature. It comes with a battery that powers it when you need it and shuts it off when you’re back indoors. The device protects every inch of your self without needing to spray or apply repellents (which works great for people with sensitive skin), and with a battery life and refill life of 40 hours, it’s great to use over weekends… Now only if there were a convenient, switch-powered sunscreen device to match! Designer: Motiv Click here to Buy Now: $40.00 $50.00 Radius uses an EPA-approved pyrethroid active ingredient. Pyrethroids are based on a naturally occurring repellent found in the chrysanthemum flower. This natural repellent from the chrysanthemum flower has been used to fight insects for millennia – dating back to ancient Egyptian times. A lithium-ion battery powers an internal heating element that silently warms and activates the repellent. Once activated, the repellent disperses to create an invisible zone of protection that keeps mosquitoes from entering into your outdoor space. And it works continuously, releasing fresh repellent to maintain the zone of protection around you. Radius Benefits Using Radius Click here to Buy Now: $40.00 $50.00 |
A Soft Case for Your Hard Drive Posted: 05 Jan 2018 02:00 AM PST Why use an external hard drive at all if you’re not going to protect it entirely?! That’s the idea behind the aptly named Linked Case. It’s been thoughtfully designed to prevent falls, abrupt disconnects and the resulting file corruption. Especially useful for laptop users who are constantly fumbling with cables and moving from place to place, it features an adhesive tab that stick to the exterior surface of the laptop. When the hard drive is wearing the Linked Case, it can easily slide onto this tab and be secured in seconds. Whether it’s during a fall or simply being thrown around in a backpack, the protective cladding will absorb impact and keep it safe from normal wear. Designer: Donita Viktoria Salazar |
Clean Water, courtesy Coca-Cola Posted: 04 Jan 2018 09:00 PM PST This past year we’ve seen some wonderful designs that have the potential to truly make an impact on a global scale – from portable newborn incubators to hard concentrate shampoo to name a few. But innovation doesn’t come with an expiry date, and Co-Life by Jan Tuomas Burakowski & Tuomas Jussila just shows that we’ll keep pushing the boundaries of innovation year after year. Comprised of two plastic water bottles, a two-part connecting chamber, a ceramic filter and a bicycle pump – Co-Life forces dirty water through the ceramic filter from one bottle and collects the clean water in the opposite bottle. Seemingly simple, Co-Life has the ability to reach a wide user group around the world due to its low manufacturing cost and low part count. Not to mention the fact that Coca-Cola bottles remain one of the most readily available bottles on the planet. Open Happiness indeed! Designers: Jan Tuomas Burakowski & Tuomas Jussila |
Posted: 04 Jan 2018 04:00 PM PST It’s not very often we see resurrection stories outside of The Evil Dead or various other TV programs, but this deadly manifestation by Death Machines of London (DMOL) is undoubtedly a notable mention. Aptly named ‘Up Yours Copper,’ this gorgeous design is a build upon a recovered 2007 Triumph Thruxton 900. Intricately found along the bike are details that demand the love and affection that went into putting them there in the first place. There are only so many words that can be used to describe this animal, so I won’t even try – what I will do is point out its outstanding features. Up Yours Copper has an elegantly simple etched brass speed gauge which sits toward the nose of the bike – while the rest of the body compliments this material with a cloak of brushed and powder coated aluminum, not to mention the hand-carved American Walnut wooden seat constructed out of seventeen parts. The bike greets you with hand-bent sweeping handlebars, knurled to perfection. Be sure to look a lot closer to prevent missing the details that truly accentuate this reborn rebel. With gorgeous detailing going into the brass grills and custom exhausts, this bike has been through a remarkable rebuild, and the guys at DMOL expressed this clearly when saying “Up Yours Copper wasn’t easy to build. Newly finished tanks got dropped, drill bits snapped, lathes broke, blood got spilled and always just when we really could’ve done without it. But no pain no gain right?” No pain, no gain indeed guys, great job. Designer: Death Machines of London |
Biking just got a whole lot interesting Posted: 04 Jan 2018 02:28 PM PST Looking like the Google Glass, but infinitely better and much more useful, the Ergonomic Smart Goggles allow bikers to have an easy to access HUD display to help them navigate through maps. The HUD unit comes with several placement-adjusters that allow the riders to position the HUD crystal wherever they want, be it in front of the right eye or the left. A camera sits right between the eyebrows, capturing your ride while allowing you to send pictures and videos to your social media or just be your head-mounted dashcam. Alongside its heads-up display, the Ergonomic Smart Goggles also come with two bone-conducting panels on the left and right temples that relay audio signals to their riders without the need for them to wear earphones and therefore cut out noise from the outer world. Designed to be infinitely customizable, and completely non-intrusive, the Ergonomic Smart Goggles may just be the only piece of tech you’ll need to rely on while commuting on two wheels! The Ergonomic Smart Goggles are a winner of the Red Dot Design Concept Award for the year 2017. Designer: U2system |
Charging can’t get more wireless than this Posted: 04 Jan 2018 12:00 PM PST Now that the iPhone finally joined the wireless charging bandwagon, we can finally see this space explode with products… like the Avido WiBa. Most wireless chargers aren’t truly wireless, because they do need to be connected to a power outlet, but the Avido WiBa doesn’t even need that. The WiBa is a wireless charging power bank, which means you can carry it around with you wherever you go and just snap it to the back of your phone to juice your gadget up without having to worry about cables or even power outlets! The WiBa’s 500mAh capacity lets you give your phone a full charge while a USB port on its side lets you charge a second device using a charging cable. How do you charge the power bank then? Simple! The WiBa comes with a wireless charging dock too on which you can just place the power bank. The power bank charges wirelessly too, and you can go as far as stacking the WiBa on its dock, followed by the phone on top of the WiBa, allowing the dock to charge both the power bank as well as your device. It may look weird at first, but it’s a small price to pay to have the convenience of truly wireless charging wherever you go! Designer: Avido |
