Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 01 Jan 2018 11:00 AM PST The Under Armour No.2017 Moon Mission is a far-out fashion exploration by designer Wu Cheng-En. The shoe’s streamlined silhouette takes inspiration from the lines and shapes found in aircraft and spacecraft, applying the functional styling to the form and material contrasts of the shoe. It also expresses the wing structure with familiar details found on the midsole and outsole sections. Designer Wu Cheng-En describes it as “underwear for your feet” and aims for it to be as comfy as shirt or compression shorts. Its smooth upper and convenient lacing system with zip and grip hooks make it just as easy to put on! Designer: Wu Cheng-En |
Posted: 01 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST Even very young kids associate milk with growth. The calcium, vitamin D, phosphorus, and protein in milk are all necessary for growing strong bones and bodies. With this clever packaging design, now they can enjoy this yummy beverage AND see that it’s helping them grow. Each container is divisible and stackable, featuring vertical segments that represent a designated length. Additionally, each is printed with the face, body or neck of a playful giraffe character that can grow alongside little ones. By continuing to connect the units over time, kids can see how they stack up to the giraffe and learn a little about math and biology along the way! Designer: Aydın Algan |
A Chameleon-like Crime Stopper Posted: 01 Jan 2018 09:39 AM PST The Autonomous Police Vehicle by Or Gal is totally giving us Viper vibes! Like the awesome 1990s TV show, this concept is a sneaky twist on the classic police cruiser armed with an array of enhancements that make it a fearsome tools for fighting crime. It special abilities include a visually impenetrable exterior that shields the person inside. It’s skin is actually one giant color changing display so it can adapt to match its surroundings. This adaptive skin also allows the windshield to display text to send messages to surrounding motorists or alert a vehicle it’s pulling over. An smart system is connected with a central hub and feeds the vehicles with suspect activity in real time. It can then be dispatched to conduct surveillance, follow suspected criminals, or photograph vehicles making illegal maneuvers. Hey, as long as it’s not giving me tickets, it’s alright in my book! Posted: 31 Dec 2017 07:00 PM PST Tea is an integral part of life for many people. As such, it deserves a sacred space at home where it can be prepared and enjoyed. That’s the idea behind Lotus. Of course, the set includes an elegant pot and cups for serving, however, it also features an ornate desk dedicated to storing or displaying your tea set. The beautiful lotus flower grill located on the surface of the top serves as a drainage area where you can dispense tea leaves when you’re finished. As for the ceramics, the pot features 3 interchangeable, artistic toppers that denote the type of tea and are an extension of oriental tea culture. The first is a lotus for healthy, stable mind. The second is pomegranate for fertility and solidarity. The third is heavenly water, considered sacred and pure. Tea leaves can also be stored in the removable handle that doubles as a container. Simply snap off, dispense your desired leaves, place the corresponding topper to steep, and enjoy. Designers: JuYoung Kim & Chang Choi |
Is Traffic Driving Up the Wall Posted: 31 Dec 2017 03:42 PM PST Everyone has come to that point when driving that Google Maps has told you that you’re in the middle of a building. It has been a problem for me in the past, but with the Ventooz, I feel it’s going to be a more accurate representation of my position. Designed for Disney’s wall climbing robot, Vertigo, the Ventooz is a scaled up version that is built for some high speed, high altitude wall climbing. The vehicle features suction cup covered wheels and four powerful fans that can point in any direction and propel the vehicle downwards, enabling it to stick to walls. For anyone who suffers from vertigo, I can assure you; this vehicle will climb a building’s wall so quick you won’t even get a chance to feel ill. As Juan Garcia Mansilla says, “just strap on the 4- point harness and up you go!” I guess that’s easier said than done Juan, but for any of you adrenaline junkies out there, this could be your next challenge.
