Posted: 19 Dec 2017 12:00 PM PST Trakthor is a transforming tractor concept that’s all about changing scale. Utilizing the latest in electric motors and materials, it can disassemble itself into smaller, more maneuverable units, and then reassemble itself into a bigger unit capable of pulling heavier things… all without any help from humans! The chassis is designed to allow each wheel unlatch and roll around obstacles independently. These autonomous units allow the Trakthor to traverse varying terrains and complete separate tasks. In this mode, gyroscopic motors are activated to maintain balance. In mode #2, Trakthor can split in two vehicles, similar in shape to a motorcycle. Slightly less maneuverable than individual units, but double the power! As technology progresses, a wide range of attachments and features for various farming activities would be made available. For example, a subsystem dedicated to tree removal or others for plowing and sowing seeds. Designer: Ashish Thulkar & Charles Bombardier |
Posted: 19 Dec 2017 09:21 AM PST All civilizations either fizzle out, or they expand far and wide. Whether they’re real ones like the Roman Civilization, or virtual ones like in Clash of Clans, every empire’s intent is to expand… and the Microscape is following that same road! The miniature city collection debuted in early 2016 with its lilliputian rendition of the big apple, New York. Designed in modules that one could buy either individually by choosing an area of importance to them (a model of their neighborhood, or workplace), or as a set, allowing them to create an entire miniaturized recreation of neighborhoods, districts, or the entire city itself! A successor to the NYC set is the Downtown Chicago set, 3D printed to 1:5000th the original size. Designed in meticulous detail after performing countless aerial scans, the city is broken down into multiple 6X6 inch units and 3D printed with great detail. With landmarks from the Willis Tower, to the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier, to even Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate also informally known as the Bean, you can pick and choose the area of Chicago you’re in love with and own it as a keepsake on your desk, or you can even choose to frame the entire 3X3ft. replica of Downtown Chicago on your wall or at the concierge of your office! Carefully printed and finished to look like the real city, but only smaller, the Microscape collection makes a beautiful gift, or is even a rather nifty thing to own (and periodically show off) as an individual… however, if you’re into architecture, design, or urban planning, the Microscape is almost like a must-have, allowing you to almost get the most realistic birds-eye view of the entire city in mesmerising detail! I can’t wait for the Microscape to expand… I’m personally waiting to see how beautiful their miniaturization of Barcelona looks like! Posted: 19 Dec 2017 06:38 AM PST Let’s for one minute step away from the style and storage needs of the single traveler (an area we’ve covered in great depth) and focus on the needs of the traveling family. Traveling with a baby usually presents itself with a completely different set of challenges. You need a high-chair, you need a car-seat if you’re traveling on wheels. Not to mention the fact that you need to have your baby kit with you at all times. Kamo’s journey to re-design and reimagine products for families begins with the Valeto. The Valeto is a suitcase designed to make traveling a breeze for families. Designed to be the one product around which your toddler’s needs revolve, the Valeto stores all baby-essentials in a manner that segregates yet makes them easy to access, and the feature that beats other features… the Valeto turns into a high-chair at the pull of two levers (that then go on to become the armrests of the high chair). Designed in light-weight aerospace grade aluminum, the Valeto’s legs push out sideways, elevating the suitcase ever so slightly to turn it into a chair that supports over 120lbs of weight. Using an industrial grade rail system, the Valeto makes sure that when in chair-mode, the hubless-wheels don’t touch the ground, so that the suitcase is never in the danger of rolling away. The telescoping trolley-handle at the back even conceals a backrest for the baby, while a table in front allows you to feed your child while on the move. The Valeto even comes with seat-belts to secure your child in place, just like any high-chair. As for the suitcase itself, aside from the aluminum components, the Valeto is made from toxin-free, BPA-free plastic. It has an in-built storage unit on the side that allows you to access wet-wipes from outside the suitcase, letting you clean down your suitcase/high-chair hybrid to keep it germ free for your child to sit on. Its white exterior even allows you to spot any dirt that may be lurking on it, letting you keep it spot free at all times. On the inside, modular removable trays allow you to keep everything at arm’s length, whether inside or outside the bag. Designed for all sorts of travel, the Valeto is even sized perfectly to allow it to be taken on-board a flight as cabin luggage. Valeto aims at being the one thing every parent owns, like a car-seat or a diaper changing table. Designed for short family excursions, long holidays, or to even use at home, the Valeto makes travel easier for parents with youngsters so you can wanderlust together as a family! Wireless communication without social addiction Posted: 18 Dec 2017 09:00 PM PST You can’t put a price on the safety and ease of communication between a parent and child. And with smartphones so easily accessible, that’s precisely why so many young kids are glued to their screens. According to Republic Wireless, there are 25 million kids in the US between ages of 6-12 of which half to a third of those kids already have a smartphone. 66% of parents say their kids are getting addicted to smartphones (50% of kids self-report the same) and lastly, a third of parents say the smartphone is a source of daily conflict in the house. It sounds to me like smartphones are becoming more troublesome than helpful. Republic Wireless acknowledged these problems a while back, three years to be exact, which led to the development of Relay and Anywhere HQ. Republic Wireless recently announced these two new communication devices. Early prototypes emerged, and Republic Wireless began to imagine a device that was simple to use with your voice, but portable enough for kids take on the go, packing all the smarts of a smartphone – just without the screen. With the evolution of smartphones being so dramatic, Relay and Anywhere HQ needed to be ready for this fastly advancing world. The Relay is a screenless mobile device built to give families and friends a safe and fun way to stay connected with each other. It works just like a walkie-talkie, except with unlimited range thanks to 4G LTE & WiFi. This means you can talk to family and friends outside, down the street, or across the country. Just press and hold the button to talk, and other Relay devices immediately hear your voice. It allows you to connect one-on-one, or to a group of devices all at once. The Relay is rugged, water-resistant and small enough to fit in a kids pocket. Instead of giving your kid a smartphone, you can provide them with a Relay – and you can feel good about it. Additionally, the Anywhere HQ is a voice-activated smart speakerphone that lets you make and receive phone calls synced to your mobile phone number and contacts. When you lift the phone off its dock, a full numerical keypad appears and allows you to dial in what’s called private mode. HQ can screen calls from robot callers and spammers, and through LTE, the device can continue working even when your home internet goes down. Designer: Republic Wireless |
Posted: 18 Dec 2017 04:00 PM PST There’s only so much your phone can do to give you the best videos you can hope for. While phone cameras focus on making the sensor bigger and the images better, there’s little a phone camera can do to give you cinematic footage. The Movi (cleverly named to represent both physical movement, and the movie format) literally brings drone tech into your smartphone via the robotic arm that uses a 3-axis motor to negate your hand’s movements, making it look like you shot footage on a steadicam. Made by the guys who developed Hollywood-quality drones and shooting rigs for the likes of Game of Thrones, Mad Max: Fury Road and Tour De France, the Movi literally brings cinematic prowess to the camera that’s on you. The Movi is literally as small as the phone itself, and comes with easy-access controls that allow you to stabilize like a pro. The Movi even comes bundled with Freefly’s video capturing and post-processing app that lets you further stabilize your video using the app’s Majestic Mode or create elaborate time-lapses using the Movi-Lapse feature. What the Movi achieves for a product its size is truly stunning. Designed to retrofit phones of all sizes, and to literally compress the kind of full-body rigs Hollywood uses into something the size of your phone, Movi truly does what it claims to do. Shrink the Hollywood camera crew to sit around your phone! Designer: Freefly BUY NOWBUY NOW |
Make your regular car instantly autonomous! Posted: 18 Dec 2017 02:00 PM PST Clip a cover onto your phone, and it becomes an Alexa smart speaker, put a small tile on your keys and never lose them again, install X-Matik’s LaneCruise add-on system in your car and you now have a partially self-driving vehicle. The system itself consists of a “brainbox” which is located below the driver’s seat, a camera projecting forward from the rear-view mirror, a break and gas pedal along with a wheel controller to steer. X-Matik’s vision is to democratize the self-driving car and give the power of this magnificent technology to people who can’t afford the likes of Tesla and other high-end vehicles. If at any stage the LaneCruise feels it is out of its depth, the system will prompt the user to regain control of the steering wheel ensuring maximum safety. Albeit the LaneCruise is missing sonar and radar, this is an exhilarating step in the right direction. Designer: X-Matik |
