Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 22 Mar 2017 09:00 AM PDT Like the Transformers from which it was inspired, the TransSpeaker aims to be a multifunctional friend! Composed of 4 speaker columns that can be individually adjusted, it can be reconfigured into an unlimited number of different forms for a variety of applications. Adjust it to serve as a stand for the very device you’re streaming music from (tablet or phone). Modify the position to change acoustics to suit your space. Sync it with your smartphone to talk hands-free to friends. Fold it up to a surprisingly compact size and take it with you anywhere! Designer: Nier Lee |
Posted: 22 Mar 2017 05:59 AM PDT If products are frequently used together, they can be clubbed together, right? This very idea lead to the spork, the toothbrush with the gum scrubbing pads, and now… the Evolutionary Brush, by Legacy Shave. This shaving brush has a rather unique twist to it, allowing it to snap right onto any pressure based shaving cream/gel can. Since all cans have a standard fixture for the nozzle, the Evolutionary brush ditches the can’s original nozzle and fits right in its place. Then all you do is push the button down and cream/gel appears directly on the brush-end of the attachment, not just saving time, but also making your shaving process rather convenient. Applying the gel on your face is actually a whole lot easier too, since instead of using brushes that come with small, hard-to-grip handles, you simply hold onto the shaving cream can for a much better grip. Easy peasy, shaving’s a breezy! Designer: Legacy Shave BUY IT HERE: $11.99 $15.00 |
What future kitchen appliances will be like Posted: 22 Mar 2017 03:00 AM PDT Gotta love this twist on the rice cooker! Called the “Haier Multipurpose Cooker”, it takes the versatility of this popular appliance and multiplies it times 3! Instead of one unit for steaming, it features three cooking hubs with containers of different sizes. Even though it’s not larger than a standard cooker, this means you can prepare multiple dishes at once. Better yet, each container can be removed, taken “to-go” and even washed independently, so you can avoid using plastic or disposable containers! The Multipurpose Cooker seems like the perfect choice for the people who live solo. Allowing you to prepare three meals at once and store them for later consumption, this may just be the kitchen appliance trend for the future! A whole range of products that allows people to multitask, because time is oh so precious! Designer: Dousan Miao |
Posted: 22 Mar 2017 12:00 AM PDT A total of 156 printed items were used to transform an existing motorcycle into an uber-aggressive and stylish street bike! From the front tip to the tank and tail, it’s clad with super-sleek 3D printed fairings made using state-of-the-art FDM technology. Not only an aesthetic improvement, the lightweight paneling offers enhanced aerodynamics for this track-ready racer. Finished in high-gloss silver/grey, its distinguished look is sure to turn the heads of both motorist and other bikers alike. Can you believe that this thing isn’t a render?! A Form-follows-Evolution Bike! Posted: 21 Mar 2017 02:32 PM PDT Form exercises can lead to the making of rather brilliant conceptual products or automobiles. Think of the Iron-Man suit or the Batmobile concepts that started as an exercise in form design and went on to develop detail and get realized into absolutely iconic prototypes. Two Wheels, by Gregor Duler started as a form exercise too. It was born out of an attempt to merge two distinct bike types, the Cafe Racer, and the Naked Bike. With a little creative licence, design details began defining the bike, giving it an absolutely unique character. The handlebars dare to be different by facing inwards, wrapping themselves over the headlamp. This allows the front half of the bike’s design to remain more contained, while the back half took on a more aggressive, blade-like avatar. The rear double shocks add a unique element to the posterior half of the bike, making the Two Wheels bike a treat for the eyes, from both head to toe! Designer: Gregor Duler |
Imagining the Anniversary iPhone! Posted: 21 Mar 2017 12:41 PM PDT Apple can’t remain a secretive company anymore. Rumors just leak out, giving not just the competition, but also imaginative designers an idea of what the new phone may look like. This results in the countless concept iPhone, iCar designs we’ve seen over the past few years. As a designer, one walks a tightrope. Trying to be creative/imaginative, yet accurately predictive is quite the challenge, and the iPhone X concept honestly feels like the most natural progression! Named X in order to commemorate a decade since the very first iPhone launch, the X looks a lot like what the rumors speculate. The phone’s size doesn’t change, but the screen pushes itself to occupy more estate on the phone’s body. Much like the Xiaomi Mi Mix (designed by Philippe Starck), the iPhone X’s front virtually has no bezel. The screen covers almost the entire front, even absorbing the home button, like most reports suggest. It however follows an curved path at the top, leaving just enough space for the earpiece and front facing camera + sensor. With the aesthetic/UI upgrade, designer Gábor Balogh even reimagines Siri to be a whole lot more powerful, being able to pull off some serious analytical tasks. The cherry on the cake (or apple pie?) is the back of the phone, which pays tribute to the macbook with a light-up Apple logo. 10 out of 10 would buy this concept phone if were a reality!
