Answer Your Doorbell From Anywhere! Posted: 03 Mar 2017 10:40 AM PST I’ve said this before… the future has smart cameras everywhere. In your car (the VAVA Dash Cam), and now at your doorstep with the dbell HD live. The dbell HD live is an all-in-one video doorbell that allows you to answer your door using your smartphone! It comes with a rather advanced camera that uses audio as well as motion detection to alert you when someone’s at your door. HD video streaming with a 160° viewing angle and night vision gives you crystal clear footage of who’s at your doorstep. You can use it with your smartphone, or any wifi enabled device, including your TV. Along with the dbell, comes an indoor alert system that you can plug into any traditional plug-point. Not only does this notify you when the doorbell has rung, it also acts as a wi-fi extender/booster, allowing you to listen to your doorbell from anywhere and even connect to your dbell (or the internet) from afar! dbell HD live’s design is minimal, yet authoritative. Use of black, white, and silver give it a no-nonsense character, while still allowing it to look approachable. Functionality, however seems to be the strongest character in dbell’s design philosophy. It comes along with an angled viewing attachment, allowing it to face its subject even if its placed beside the door. As for the dbell, it’s literally jam-packed with features that make it arguably the best video doorbell there is. It uses wi-fi to allow you to see who’s at your door no matter whether you’re at home or even outside. It comes with an in-built intercom that lets you communicate with the people at your door. You can stream video to see what’s happening outside your door, and even record video clips (of the neighbor’s dog trespassing your lawn, or the UPS guy manhandling your couriers). Night vision ensures you get a clear view even in low-light conditions. The dbell integrates smartly with your existing home security systems, allowing you to even lock or unlock your door remotely, just through your smartphone! The dbell HD live… The most advanced video doorbell for your home, so that when opportunity comes knocking… you’ll know! Designer: Naz Kawsar of dbell BUY IT HERE: $129.00 $289.00 |
Posted: 03 Mar 2017 10:30 AM PST Gema might appear to be a precious piece of baby jewelry, but this wearable device does so much more than just look good! It provides parents with real-time statistics and vitals related to their baby’s health. Worn on the baby’s wrist, it detects and monitors their heart rate, oxygen levels, temperature and sleep cycles. Data is transmitted wirelessly to parents via a comprehensive smartphone app. They can keep track of their little one’s progress and even share information remotely with healthcare professionals! Posted: 03 Mar 2017 03:00 AM PST Dare I say, I like this Apple more than any post-Jobs release?! Despite being an exploration in automotive design and not tech gadgetry, its minimalism and purity look quintessentially Apple and it feels like something straight out of the brand’s heyday. Little is known about the conceptual specs except that it’s electric (of course) but put our pre-order in! We think Jobs might just approve of this one. Designer: Alexander Imnadze |
Water-powered Lighting for All Posted: 03 Mar 2017 12:00 AM PST It’s hard to imagine what life would be like without light, but the reality is that this precious thing we take for granted is something many people around the world can only dream of. For them, Beacon is a new conceptual device that provides illumination using the power of salt water. Ideal for areas close to the sea, the design utilizes a galvanic cell battery system and only requires refilling with salt water. Unlike kerosene or oil lamps which pollute the air and are dangerous, this design is so safe to use that even kids can operate it. Designer: Carmen Cumming |
No headphone jack? How about no screen! Posted: 02 Mar 2017 02:00 PM PST The Alo phone is like Mona Lisa, says Jerome Olivet. Made long ago, but still relevant today. Initially a conceptual product designed with Philippe Starck more than 20 years ago, the Alo was recently relaunched as a refined design concept for a phone. Made for a future dominated by Siris and Alexas, the Alo phone comes without a screen and relies solely on voice communication. The phone’s body is made of a gelatinous material wrapped around an aluminum unibody, and its form designed to be placed perpetually against the ear. Devoid of a screen, the phone relies on voice input, and comes with a camera (not for selfies) that does some pretty fancy lip-reading to turn voice effectively to text. The lack of the screen enables the Alo to have such an organic, unconventional shape. My personal opinion? It looks too much like a breast implant… but that may just be neo-phobic old me! I although have to give credit to the designers for predicting 20 years ago that we would live in a world heavily dominated by AI voice assistants. That bit couldn’t be truer.
