Xena — A Story of Courage From Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Magic of Cats By Helen Krasner Just watching my cats can make me happy. ~Paula Cole In February 2019, our beautiful Maine Coon, Xena, suddenly lost the use of her back legs and bladder. My partner David and I were extremely concerned and took her straight to our vet, who booked her for X-rays, blood tests, and ultrasound scans. The results were inconclusive, but it looked as though Xena might have a problem with her spinal discs, which would probably be permanent. The vet gave her Gabapentin and taught me how to express her bladder. Then we took her home. She was still a bright, happy cat, so we didn't want to put her to sleep, but it was heartbreaking to see her drag both back legs as she tried to walk.
