By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editor CALL WAITING: The retired Drew Brees brushed off a suggestion that he suit up to replace the injured Jameis Winston, who succeeded him this year as quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. Now the retired Philip Rivers, who replaced the injured Brees in 2006 as quarterback of the Chargers, says he would be willing to talk if the Saints called and that he's been keeping himself in shape for a return to the NFL if "the perfect storm hits." RELATIVELY SPEAKING: A younger relative of Jack Strain testified Tuesday that the St. Tammany Parish sheriff let him drink alcohol at Strain's home although he was only 15 years old and fondled his groin while he was asleep. The testimony came on the sixth day of the former sheriff's sex crimes trial. RULES OF CIVILITY: The independent commission charged with ensuring New Orleans municipal employees are treated fairly is suing Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration for allegedly holding its budget hostage and trying to block the hiring of one of its senior leaders.
