| Hey fellow nature-lovers, CleverHiker is all about sharing our love for nature and networking with people who love to recreate outdoors, regardless of skin color. We acknowledge that people of color donât have equal and safe access to the joys and benefits of hiking, backpacking, and camping. We stand in support of lowering social and economic barriers to give everyone opportunities to adventure, explore, and be healed by nature. In acknowledging the inequality that people of color face in outdoor spaces, we would like to use our position of privilege to amplify a few voices that are working towards inclusivity and safety. Wild Diversity is a local organization in Portland, OR that hosts outdoor education programs and trips for people of color and LGBTQ+ folks with a goal of creating a sense of belonging for these communities. Melanin Base Camp is an organization that works to amplify stories of people of color in the outdoors and educates folks about being good allies. Outdoor Afro fights for climate justice, works to change power dynamics in outdoor leadership, and tells the stories of black people in the outdoors.
