Redevelopment starts on one of the world’s largest old mills

A hundred years ago, about 400 homes were built outside Woodside Mill to supply the Woodside brothers with workers. Now Woodside homes are under construction again, but this time inside the mill. A number of plans for the old mill have been proposed and dropped since it closed in 1984, but by the time Crossgate Partners had an official groundbreaking on Oct. 16, workers were already making progress on the site.

School district, city of Easley partner for traffic improvement

The School District of Pickens County and the city of Easley have reached an agreement to lengthen the traffic loops at Forest Acres Elementary and West End Elementary.

Furman names Wilkins Leadership Award recipients

State Rep. Gary Simrill, R-York, and Nella Barkley, president of Crystal-Barkley Corp., will receive The Riley Institute at Furman University’s 2019 David H. Wilkins Leadership Awards recognizing outstanding legislative and civic leadership in the state.

Grant funding available to reduce diesel engine emissions

Businesses, governments, universities, or private organizations can apply for federal grants to replace or upgrade older diesel engines as part of an effort to reduce diesel emissions in South Carolina. The Environmental Protection Agency is offering about $267,000 in grants for distribution in South Carolina under the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act.

Liberty Trail to link Revolutionary War sites

More Revolutionary War battles were fought in South Carolina than any other state. About 200 engagements occurred in the state, according to the National Park Service.

Rebuild Upstate gets $7,500 from Countybank Foundation

The Countybank Foundation and Greenwood Capital employees recently participated in an Upstate Rebuild blitz repair of three houses in Anderson, Greenville and Greer that accounted for a $7,500 donation and 248 hours of service. Rebuild Upstate receives public and private funds to support home repairs across Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Oconee counties. Through its work, the organization hopes to raise awareness of the need for more affordable housing in Upstate communities.
