Cally Conway Despite her London location, Cally Conway is a dedicated lover of the natural world, and her linoprints draw on themes of nature and folklore. This image, Guardian in Gold, is inspired by reliquaries and sacred trees, and celebrates the revered English Yew tree. Yew trees are auspicious in folklore, guarding the underworld and being associated with rebirth, death, and everlasting life. Wild flowers found in woodland frame the hand, the knuckles as eyes are a nod to the watchful protective nature of the yew, and the windows offer a little glimpse into the heavens, or the underworld. Enchanting! This original one-colour linocut print is on heavyweight Fabriano Rosaspina paper and available in the gallery and online. Shop all Cally Conway at ABtS. |

Large Scale Gestural Drawing with Coloured Inks In October, join Katie Sollohub for two days making large gestural ink drawings, inspired by the energy of our ocean front location. After making smaller 'field' sketches on the shore, you'll use pencil, pastel and coloured inks to make large 4ft x 8ft drawings back at our newly-refurbished beach-side studio. At the end of the course you may choose to take your drawing away whole, cut it up into smaller pieces, wash it off in the sea, or leave it behind and take away only the memory of the experience. |
