Freeze warning for northern half of Minnesota. Wednesday temperatures look very similar to this morning, except it will be even a couple degrees colder, causing more widespread freeze concerns north. There is a chance of rain for southern Minnesota tonight and tomorrow morning. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower 50s to lower 60s. 387 new COVID-19 cases reported today, likely due to fewer tests. The number of new cases reported Tuesday was half the average number of cases reported last week. Similarly low are the 7,120 new tests reported — less than half of recent trends. The data also showed fewer than two dozen new hospitalizations, for the first time since June. Winona State quarantinen after 200-plus cases reported tied to its students. Winona State University today said it was instituting a 14-day quarantine, while moving most classes online in an attempt to reduce the number of people on campus as much as possible. The Minnesota Department of Health’s Kris Ehresmann said there were more than 200 cases tied to Winona State students. S he added that schools have limited ability to stem the transmission. State ed commissioner to Minnesota parents: Keep ill kids home. “I am urging you to please stay home when you are sick, keep your child home when you are sick this year," said Commissioner Mary Cathryn Ricker as she urged parents to continue to limit contact with others and wear masks to help limit COVID-19 in schools. She also said among nearly 600 school districts and charter schools in the state, about 425 have reported their start up plans to the state, with more than half starting their school year with some kind of hybrid model.
