Global IT outage caused by ‘update for Windows’

Tech billionaire Elon Musk described it as the 'biggest IT fail ever'

A massive IT outage caused major disruption across numerous industries late on Thursday and into Friday, with airlines, retail, banking, health care systems, and even broadcasters among those affected, Digital Trends reported.

It later emerged that the outage was due to a defective software update rolled out by Texas-based cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike for its Microsoft Windows hosts.

In a post on social media on Friday morning, CrowdStrike president George Kurtz said the issue had been "identified, isolated, and a fix has been deployed." He added that "this is not a security incident or cyberattack” ...

Nothing to launch ‘an extraordinary new smartphone’ this month

Well, they would say that. But we're still intrigued to see it

Nothing will reveal its next smartphone, the Nothing Phone 2a Plus, on Wednesday, July 31, Digital Trends reported.

The name suggests the new handset will be based on the Nothing Phone 2a, which launched in March and is the more affordable sibling of the Nothing Phone 2, which landed last year.

The new handset comes with the tagline: Plus. More. Extra. “Plus” could mean a larger screen compared to the Nothing Phone 2a, which has a 6.7-inch display. “More” suggests the new phone could have expanded storage and memory and even a larger battery, while “Extra” may point to an increase in the number of glyph lights on the back of the devices. All will be revealed soon ...

Dyson’s new headphones are less controversial and way more colorful

Brand known for high-tech vacuums has another go at headphones

Many folks rather liked the quality of the Dyson Zone headphones, but were less impressed with the odd-looking air-purification visor that directed an airflow into your mouth/nose area.

Taking note of the feedback, Dyson has now unveiled the OnTrac, a pair of wireless, noise-canceling headphones without a visor, Digital Trends reported. And at $500, they're half the price of the Zone.

The new OnTrac headphones are available in three aluminum-based color themes: CNC aluminum, copper, and nickel. There's also a ceramic-based version called Ceramic Cinnabar. Additional outer earcap and ear cushion pairs can be also be ordered in an array of matching colors for $50 per pair ...

The Warner Bros. movie is a standalone sequel to 1996 disaster film

Twisters is forecast to rake in as much as $55 million in North America when it touches down in theaters this weekend, Variety reported.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Twisters features Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos as storm chasers who find themselves up against the elements when numerous tornadoes thunder in over central Oklahoma.

The Nintendo Switch is finally getting an official Joy-Con charging stand

It's only taken seven years to get around to it!

Nintendo has announced that it’s launching a Joy-Con controller charging stand on October 17, Kotaku reported.

Going by the released images, it includes a USB-C port and looks as if it’ll support all Joy-Cons, including the Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers. It appears that it’ll work vertically on a stand and horizontally, too.

Nintendo conveyed the news via X (formerly Twitter), but has yet to offer any details on pricing. And you can’t preorder it yet, either. Kotaku points out that the Switch doesn’t really need a charging stand as the console does the job when it’s docked, but for multiplayer games and players with multiple Joy-Cons, it should come in handy ...
