Monkey business: Lab accident portends danger for remainder of 2020 Just when it seemed like 2020 couldn’t get any more dramatic, a new plot twist has emerged that threatens to kick things into overdrive. A scientist carrying COVID-19-positive blood samples was attacked outside of his lab in India by a troupe of monkeys, who then made off with the test samples into the nearby trees. The monkeys were seen playing with the samples and chewing on them, which only adds to the severity of the issue. Fortunately, the scientists involved in the incident aren’t too worried. Eventually, they recovered the “mostly” intact test kits, saying that the risk of spread and contamination remains low. But we’ve got to be honest: The word “mostly” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. At this point, we’re kind of wishing monkeys would stick to taking sunglasses and fruit instead.
