| According to the most recent Digital Commerce Index, more customers prefer self-checkout, especially younger ones between the ages of 18-44. So we asked: Are you seeing an increased acceptance of self-checkout at grocery stores? And you answered: Yes, more do it on their own (57%) No, we hear more complaints (39%) Other, tell us in the comments (4%) And you said: Jonathan Lieu, Corporate Communications Manager Acceptance is different from liking it. When I shop, sometimes self-checkout is the only option, so oftentimes customers are forced to use it. I don’t think customers necessarily prefer self-checkout for the sake of self-checkout itself. What they want is speed. They don’t want to have to wait in a line longer than they have to. I’m confident that if customers feel that a human can check them out quickly, they wouldn’t care about self-checkout. I seem to see the older demographics struggling with it, while the younger demographics accept it. Personally, if it saves me five minutes, it’s worth it to me.
