Plus, how will new public safety plan change policing in Salt Lake City?
⛅ 15 – 28° Logan | 🌦️ 24 – 32° Salt Lake ⛅ 12 – 27° Manti | ☀️ 19 – 45° Moab ☀️ 15 – 37° Cedar City | ☀️ 26 – 51° St. George 🌅 Good morning! BYU basketball assistant coach Chris Burgess knows about the BYU-Utah rivalry better than anybody. Both schools tried recruiting him out of high school, and he ended up playing for Utah for two years after transferring from Duke. With tonight's rivalry game, Jay Drew caught up with him to see what he's expecting from the game. “I am super fired up,” Burgess told Drew. “It is a fierce rivalry, and back to being a conference rivalry, where it belongs. We get a chance to play them not just for bragging rights, but for Big 12 standings implications. It is huge.” Tipoff is at 7 p.m. MST at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City — the same spot where Utah prevailed in a tight 73-69 game last year. | Will a TikTok deal influence the outcome of Utah’s lawsuit? |
|
| | The Supreme Court upheld the potential ban of TikTok in the U.S. The ban could happen as soon as this Sunday. The reason for the possible ban stems from security concerns about the app and the app's owner, ByteDance. The ruling sided with those concerns and agreed it would not violate free speech protections if to remain in the U.S., the app would be required to change owners. How will this impact Utah's lawsuit against the social media giant? Utah's lawsuit may still be upheld if a deal is brokered and TikTok remains in the U.S., Emma Pitts reported. What is Utah's lawsuit against TikTok? The lawsuit was filed last June and alleges that "emotional, financial and sexual exploitation of children" has taken place by criminals and predators using the app. It also includes allegations that the company knew about the heinous crimes and claims the company profits from such abuse. Here's what Utah officials said: Attorney General Derek Brown: “Congress found the same thing Utah has found — the enmeshment between TikTok and its parent company ByteDance pose significant national security concerns, and that TikTok has known for some time that their activities harm our children but did nothing to stop those harms. As a state, we will continue our litigation against TikTok to hold them accountable for harming our children.” Gov. Spencer Cox: “TikTok knew the harm its platform was causing, yet chose to look the other way, allowing predators to exploit minors in unconscionable ways. Utah will not stand idly by while social media companies endanger our kids for financial gain.” In other TikTok news: ‘TikTok makes me happy’: what young Utahns have to say about the impending TikTok ban Say goodbye to TikTok.
