California and Washington state will be enacting new pay transparency laws starting on Jan. 1, requiring many employers to include a salary range in job postings. In New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed a statewide salary transparency law, and similar measures have already been passed in New York City and Albany County. 2022 kicked my tail. I had some turnover on my team. My boss -- who I adore as a leader and friend -- left the company. Our product set changed -- we added some, overhauled others. We had more work, fewer hands and aggressive goals. You had a tough year too. The Great Resignation. Quiet quitting. Stealth workers. Spiking inflation. Employers calling workers back to the office -- and workers stiff-arming these moves. Like us, you also faced aggressive goals. But we all made it. We crossed the finish line and were better for the experience. We became stronger. Wiser. Tighter with our teams. Growth like that isn’t luck. It’s the product of consistency. It’s what happens when you show up and do excellent work. Every day, without fail. I like the way NBA legend Kevin Garnett puts it (forward to 1:46 in the clip): It’s consistency though. Getting into a routine -- watching film, studying, knowing that this is how you prepare, this is how you get ready for games. Not when you want to, not when you feeling good, not when the sun is out, not when the rainbow’s out here. Not when they cheering my name when I got a check. Not when they feeling me. Naw. This is every day. When it’s raining. When my knee hurts. When I can’t walk. 365 days. This is how I plan to walk into 2023.
