 | Hit flighted wedges on command

Wood Ranch G.C., Los Angeles, CA | | Hitting a low wedge shot is easier than you think. Use my formula to adjust the trajectory of your wedge shots and increase your control inside 50 yards. First, play around with ball position. To hit lower flying wedge shots, try playing the ball anywhere from one to two balls behind center. No further, or it will make it harder to start shots on line. Second, try opening the face slightly. It might sound counterintuitive, but opening the face increases spin and prevents the leading edge from digging. To do this, imagine a clock and turn the toe of the club as far as 1:00, for right-handed players. Lastly, put more weight into your lead leg with a slight bend in your front knee. This will help you deliver the club with forward shaft lean, amplifying the lower trajectory. Now put it all together and use a standard pitching motion. The ball should come off the face with lower trajectory and ample spin for stopping power, making it the perfect go-to shot when hitting into the wind or onto fast greens. | |
