| The outcome of the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, exonerating Trump of collusion with Russia, is a political debacle for the Democratic Party and for the corporate media. For the past two years, the Democrats and their media allies have bombarded the public with lurid tales of "Russian meddling." In addition to fighting out the foreign policy conflicts within the ruling class, the anti-Russia campaign has been used as a pretext for internet censorship, including of the WSWS, in the name of combating "fake news" and promoting the "authoritative media." As Barry Grey notes in the perspective published on the WSWS today, the outcome "has demonstrated that it was precisely the 'authoritative' media that has been lying through its teeth, while the WSWS's exposure of the reactionary character of every faction of the ruling class has been confirmed."
