Twenty years ago when I was a broke, struggling, socially anxious binge drinking personal trainer (who didn’t want to be any of those things)...
My favorite personal training client was a gentleman named Boris.
Boris was a hardworking M&A investment banker, and we met three times per week, including 11am on Saturday.
That was the day I always gave him the “dreaded duo”.
The duo was a superset of split squats and dumbbell rows.
Boris hated these moves.
But can you guess which exercises Boris’ body needed the most?
Yup, the dreaded duo I would put him through.
It was in these workouts that I had the obvious revelation...
That which we resist the most, we need the most.
Whether it is a resistance exercise... a bad habit intervention... or a difficult conversation…
That which you resist is where you must look to act.
For example...
The more you resist a “hardcore” morning routine of getting to work on your #1 priority...
...and pushing all your soft self-care stuff to later...
The more you need the hardcore approach.
The more you resist discussing the poor performance of a “nice” team member...
The more you need to have that talk and get to the bottom of the situation.
Now is the time to lean into your resistance.
Take a good hard look and see where this principle applies in your life…
What are you resisting?
When you grab the proverbial bull by the horns and finally deal with the situation…
You’re virtually guaranteed to achieve massive breakthroughs.
