Plus: Christos Tsiolkas on the Minefield and ABC Jazz’s inaugural countdown
| Is not having a car worth it? | Sarah Allely’s story starts in September last year. That’s when her mechanic told her their car needed thousands of dollars’ worth of work – but was too old to invest in. It wasn’t a great time financially to buy a new one. So her family decided to do an experiment to see if not owning a car could make financial as well as environmental sense. Straight away, she says, she started doubting whether it was a good idea. “I was worried I had made a mistake,” she writes. “Was this going to make our lives even more stressful and chaotic? Was I crazy to put this extra pressure on us?” Read all about how the year turned out in Sarah’s article. And if you’re looking for something different this weekend, tune into ABC Jazz for their inaugural Jazz 100. This year’s theme is “your favourite jazz artist”. (Don’t worry about missing your favourite RN shows – as always you can catch up on them later on the RN website or the ABC listen app.) Until next time, Rosie Ryan, digital editor Enjoy getting Radio National in your inbox?
