By: Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com Allora! Very few sportspeople manage to transcend their sport in the fashion that Valentino Rossi has achieved in MotoGP or, indeed, have the longevity he’s enjoyed across 26 seasons in two-wheeled racing. Alas, this year will be his last as a rider in motorcycling’s premier class. All good things must come to an end, and Rossi has been the best thing to happen to MotoGP. A blend of sublime talent and unique charisma, Rossi cuts quite an unassuming figure in the flesh and, to talk to, I’ve always found him to be surprisingly humble, very honest and highly amusing! His fans around the world will have been dreading this day but it’s been on the cards for some time. He’s retiring on his terms, and of course he could have gone for a ‘lap of honour’ victory tour next year – but that’s not his style. So catch him while you can in the second half of the season, and I look forward to him having some fun on four wheels in future! |
