Pro-Israel groups helped defeat two ‘Squad’ members. Why aren’t they targeting Ilhan Omar? The groups spent at least $24 million to oust Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri in the Democratic primary this week. Rep. Jamaal Bowman was defeated in June. Rep. How the Israel-Hamas war could affect The Last of Us season 2: Neil Druckmann, the Israeli-American writer and co-creator of HBO’s critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama, has said that parts of the first season were inspired by his own childhood growing up in an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank. He has been vocal in his support of Israel in the aftermath of Oct. 7, and many are wondering if the second season of the series, based on a video game featuring warring militias, will reflect that. ⚖️  A Pittsburgh man who sprayed antisemitic graffiti on a sidewalk has agreed to one year of probation and 20 hours of community service with a Jewish nonprofit. (CBS)


😲  A city councilwoman in Raleigh, North Carolina, who recently filed for re-election, is facing criticism for repeatedly making incendiary comments about Israel and Jews. (Algemeiner)


🛫  Flights to Israel often have coffins in the cargo hull to accommodate Jews who wish to be buried in Israel. That has made it difficult for strictly observant kohanim, who follow a rule that prohibits them from being in the presence of dead people. Now, El Al is testing out offering coffin-free flights from JFK to Tel Aviv through the end of September. (Lakewood Scoop)

OLYMPIC UPDATE

Australian race walker Jemima Montag won her second bronze medal of the Paris Olympics on Wednesday. Montag, who is also a full-time medical student at Melbourne University, is one of at least three Jewish Aussies to medal in Paris, alongside kayaking sisters Jessica and Noemie Fox.


Did you know? The Universal Studios company basketball team represented the U.S. at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and won the first gold medal in that sport. The story has a little bit of everything, including Nazis, the only Jewish American athlete to win gold in Berlin, a brief history of early basketball and a cameo from Frankenstein.
