From fast food to speed dating, we seem to be confusing quality of life with getting things done as quickly as possible before moving onto the next challenge. This does, of course, have its benefits. We saw this as the country rolled out an amazing vaccination programme at pace during the earlier days of the pandemic. The scientists, medics and volunteers had to work quickly and they certainly saved many lives by doing so. But 100mph speed is not always great. While many of us would love to see the back of the remaining restrictions on our lives, we do have to look at the bigger picture. What would it mean for people who are vulnerable? Effectively it would make them prisoners in their homes. And what about giving the more cautious amongst us the confidence to go on holiday, out for a meal or to the theatre? If no-one is expected to isolate after a positive test, is that really going to help the economy in the longer term? Sometimes the tortoise can beat the hare.
