| Why Vice Is Trying to Build a Community—on OnlyFans | | | | I mean, if it was any publisher, it was going to be Vice. Scott Nover asks the media company, why OnlyFans? For $4.99 a month, OnlyFans users can access exclusive recipes from food vertical Munchies for dishes like fried avgolemono (I had to Google that Greek egg and lemon sauce) and chicken fricassee. Publishers have a knack of trying out new platforms and tech with varying degrees of longevity and authenticity. What struck me about this is that Vice seems dedicated to giving this a real stab. This is from Vice executive producer of digital video Clifford Endo Gulibert: “Even though as a brand we always try to not take ourselves too seriously, we didn’t want to make this just a gimmick—we wanted to take the work seriously. We wanted to provide an actual experience that is worth a paid subscription and special.” Check out Scott Nover’s interview with Gulibert where he discusses why Munchies is on OnlyFans over platforms like Patreon, Vice’s forays into direct-to-consumer and creating exclusive content.
