Our Spring Appeal

"All that one has to do is to understand the chaos, the disorder in which we live. In the understanding of that we have order, there comes clarity, there comes certainty. And that certainty is not the invention of thought. That certainty is intelligence.
And when you have all this, when the mind sees all this very clearly then the door opens. What lies beyond is not nameable. It cannot be described, and anyone who describes it has never seen it, because it cannot be put into words because the word is not the thing, the description is not the described. All that one can do is to be totally attentive in our relationship, and that attention is not possible when there is image; to understand the whole nature of pleasure and fear, and to see that pleasure is not love, and desire is not love. And you have to find out for yourself everything, nobody can tell you.
Every religion has said, 'Don't kill'. To you that is just a word - 'Don't kill', but if you are serious you have to find out what it means for yourself. What has been said in the past may be true, but that truth is not yours, you have to find it out, what it means never to kill. You have to find out, you have to learn what it means not to kill, then it is your truth and it is a living truth. In the same way you have to find out for yourself, not through another, not through practice of a system invented by another, nor the acceptance of a guru, of a teacher, of a saviour, but you yourself in your freedom have to see what is truth, what is false, and find out for yourself completely how to live a life in which there is no strife whatsoever. The whole of this is meditation."

Why is there such chaos in the world? Krishnamurti suggests that order is not something imposed but arises naturally when we understand disorder. Is the search for certainty, for something fixed, an illusion? Could this very search prevent us from seeing things as they are—without escape, without projection? Instead, we must look deeply at the turmoil within ourselves and in the world around us. Only then does a door open, revealing something beyond words, beyond thought. This spring, we invite you to explore this inquiry with us.

Every day, new individuals encounter his work through our online resources, publications, outreach efforts, programs, and the dialogues at the Krishnamurti Center. At Oak Grove School, students, teachers, and parents continue to engage with the teachings in a profound and meaningful way.

Later this spring, we invite you to join us for the KFA Annual May Gathering on May 3-4, 2025, at Oak Grove School in Ojai. This year’s theme is "On Silence." The Gathering will also be livestreamed online.
Over the course of the weekend, attendees will engage in discussions, dialogues, and workshops exploring the nature of silence. What does it mean to be truly silent, not just in the absence of noise, but in the stillness of the mind? Is silence something to be cultivated, or does it emerge naturally when there is a deep understanding of ourselves? Can we listen without interpretation, observe without judgment, and allow space for silence to reveal its depth? Through inquiry and reflection, participants will have the opportunity to explore these questions alongside teachers from our schools, scholars of Krishnamurti’s work, and fellow inquirers in a setting that encourages deep listening and learning.

This month, our programs continue with opportunities for reflection and discovery, including a one-day silent retreat at the Krishnamurti Sonoma Center in Occidental, CA. On Sunday, March 23, In the Light of Silence offers a rare chance to step away from daily distractions and come together in shared silence within a peaceful setting. Participants will gather at regular intervals to honor their shared commitment to silence. The schedule is designed to remove the need for communication about daily activities while providing space to be present with others throughout the day.
Next month the online program, Looking into the Mirror of Relationship, will take place from April 14-18, 2025. Inquiry begins with relationship. We cannot investigate clearly together unless we look first at our relationship together as a group and as individuals. Since we already assume we are in relationship with others, we necessarily feel no urgency to look into that mirror. But are we actually in relationship with others? Or are we connected to each other through expectations, images, selfish desires and gratification? This online program offers a space to explore these questions through dialogue, reflection, and engagement with Krishnamurti’s teachings.
