In George Romero's Day of the Dead, a zombie apocalypse has all but ended the world.

After an eventful weekend which saw police issuing a Lancashire party organiser with a £10,000 fine and no sign of a let up in cases of infection, we start a new week. With extra measures still in place in Preston and some other parts of the county, it's become clear that the pandemic is for the long-haul. But with the children now largely back at school, many parents and teachers are still concerned and rightly so. Despite everyone's stellar efforts, there will be news of cases and closures and we must remain vigilant. Today a school in Longridge has partially closed after a teacher received a positive Covid test. Over in Blackpool, the magistrates' courts have closed temporarily after security staff were infected. Meanwhile more of us are being tested at centres across Lancashire as test and trace tries to diagnose and isolate small spates of cases. It's clear that Covid is unpredictable. Experts in nearby Bolton, for example, cannot find any correlations which leads to the large spike - apart from most cases being aged between 20 and 40. So, it's really challenging. but we must soldier on to beat this thing. We always carry the latest state of play on the website if you want to see the latest figures. Best wishes on this rainy day!
