Hard to believe it’s nearly 50 years since Garrison Keillor hosted the first A Prairie Home Companion back on July 6, 1974. The weekly radio broadcast remained on the air until July of 2016, with its music, humor, and accounts of life in tiny Lake Wobegon (where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are all above average).
Now, with stops in Wilmington, North Carolina, (March 24) and Greenville, South Carolina, (March 26), folks have another opportunity to revisit the perennially popular show in person.

There’s the Royal Academy of Radio Actors (Sue Scott, Tim Russell, and sound-effects wizard Fred Newman) with “Guy Noir, Private Eye,” “The Lives of the Cowboys,” “Duane and His Mom,” “Bob, the Story of a Young Artist,” and “Ruth Harrison, Reference Librarian.” Plus commercials for Coffee, Bebopareebop Rhubarb Pie, the Catchup Advisory Board, Bertha’s Kitty Boutique, and Powdermilk Biscuits (heavens, they’re tasty!).
Plus, duets with dazzling vocalist Heather Masse and charming singer-actor Christine DiGiallonardo, music director Richard Dworsky at the piano, Richard Kriehn (fiddle and mandolin), guitarist Chris Siebold, and bassist Larry Kohut.
