| I wish I could remember the name of the movie I rented decades ago as a VHS in a variety store. It was a foreign film. Eastern European I think. It was about a man who was a photographer. He was doing industrial photography for a tile company. Just taking pictures of tiles. A very focused, quiet man living a rather boring life. He went to visit his brother who is wild and free and keeps bombarding his tranquility with his drinking and women and coming in late and hangovers and silly talk. One day they are on a drive to take photos of tiles. They come across an absolutely beautiful scene with cattle on a hill. The wild brother stops the car and says, "Take a picture!" The brother responds, "Nah. The gear's in the drunk. Too much bother. Fuck it!" His brother tries to talk him into it. After a while they drive away. I decided then I didn't want to be like that. I would never say, "Ah, fuck it!" because I didn't want to be bothered... and MISS an opportunity for beauty or anything else. This last weekend Lisa and I went camping and did a lot of hiking. Several times we came across people who seemed to be having trouble. We could have easily just said "Fuck it!" and moved on because we didn't want to be inconvenienced. Instead, we stopped and asked if we could help. Several times our help was needed and we made their day! It was soooo worth it. Be bothered! |
