Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg warned the public not to join in Donald Trump's reckless behavior in minimizing the seriousness of the coronavirus.

The View started things off on Tuesday by addressing Trump's departure from Walter Reed after 3 days of treatment after exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. Goldberg also brought up Trump's dramatic face mask removal for a White House photo-op, the president telling the country “don't be afraid of Covid,” and his continued false claims about the virus.

Goldberg reminded viewers that Trump has unparalleled access to medical attention, that the disease is still a threat to the public, and that very few non-wealthy people can expect the same kind of medical treatments Trump received.

"You are not him. None of you out there are him. You're going to get sick, and you can't get all the stuff he can get, all the steroids going into his body," she said. "When you have someone who is saying don't worry about it, he doesn't have to worry about it because he's being pampered and dealt with 24/7...No one is doing that to you."

It was an important point to make. Most people don't have President-level healthcare and a "personal physician," but more than that there are a lot of people who don't have any access to care at all.

Trump's dangerous "let them eat experimental antibody cocktail" attitude was the right thing to blast.

MEDIA LOSER:
Tomi Lahren

After a weekend in which the people of America watched each day for medical updates on the slew of administration officials, including the President of the United States, who have contracted COVID-19, Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren kicked off Monday by mocking 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden for wearing a face mask.

After Biden posted a video of himself wearing a mask to Twitter, along with the captions, “Wear a mask,” and “Masks matter. They save lives,” Lahren responded, “Might as well carry a purse with that mask, Joe.”

Among those infected in the White House hot zone: President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Hope Hicks, Ronna McDaniel, Kellyanne Conway, Bill Stepien, Chris Christie, Kayleigh McEnany, three White House reporters, two military aides, and White House housekeeping staff, to name a few. Not to mention the many who've had to quarantine.

But Tomi Lahren thinks the REAL sucker is Joe Biden, whose unmanly mask wearing (a required safety measure at the offices of Lahren's employer, Fox News) as a measure against outbreaks like the one at the White House is so weak that he needs a purse, which is weak because girls.

Later in the day Tuesday Lahren speculated that Biden doesn't actually want to win and his actions must be a form of self-sabotage. Which accessory goes with irony, we wonder?

White House Covid-19 Hot Zone

A Trump administration official called the White House “a cesspool” after President Donald Trump — who tested positive for Covid-19 last week — returned following a brief stay at the Walter Reed Medical Center.

“It’s insane that he would return to the White House and jeopardize his staff’s health when we are still learning of new cases among senior staff," the unnamed official said. "This place is a cesspool.”

Meanwhile, after returning to the White House and taking his mask off dramatically, not to mentioning saying that Covid is NBD, Trump has gone back to flu-therism.

He's also back to being flagged as a source of misinformation on social media. Does that warning label come with some sort of tote, Tomi?

Biden Town Hall

Monday night's NBC News town hall with Joe Biden was hosted by Lester Holt and went off without a hitch. The smoothly run event and competent, confident job by Holt were in contrast to last week's debate, even accounting for the different format and lack of an opponent. It was just better run.

Speaking of that difference, though, Biden bashed Trump's performance as "embarrassing" and also regretted calling him a clown, when a member of the audience worried that Trump bullied the former VP.

Trump Losing Seniors

Fox News’ Dana Perino spoke with Trump campaign senior adviser Mercedes Schlapp on some new polling showing President Donald Trump losing among seniors.

Perino told Schlapp this looks like a trend and asked, “I know that the campaign has done a great job of registering new voters. Do you think that you have registered enough voters to cover yourselves for the seniors that you’re apparently losing?”

Sext and Out

The drama continues in North Carolina, Democratic Senate candidate Cal Cunningham bailed on a North Carolina town hall with his opponent Thom Tillis after being accused of sexting the wife of a veteran.

BRUTAL

Former First Lady Michelle Obama pulled no punches in a new “closing argument” speech in which she pressed a sustained attack on President Donald Trump’s “failure” on the coronavirus and “racist” fearmongering, and told Americans to “vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it.”

It is a relentless, merciless reckoning.

“Search your hearts, and your conscience," said Obama, "and then vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it.”

Delays Domino

Warner Bros. is shifting the lineup of several of its upcoming movies following Monday’s news that Dune has been pushed back to 2021. The BatmanMatrix 4The Flash and Shazam 2 are among the studio’s films that have moved around the release calendar.

Elle

Sen. Kamala Harris has landed the cover of Elle Magazine the day before she faces Mike Pence in the 2020 vice presidential debate.

Stop Saying ‘We All Wish President Trump Well.’ A Lot Of Us Don’t
by Tommy Christopher

“We all wish the president well” — or some variation on that sentiment — has been a constant refrain in the media since President Donald Trump announced he’d tested positive for Covid-19, but a lot of people, myself included, just do not...

Chris Cuomo Opened His Show Last Night By Railing Against ‘Bullsh*t.’ A Few Minutes Later, He Welcomed Anthony Scaramucci.
by Joe DePaolo

The rant went viral in no time. For Chris Cuomo, President Donald Trump’s grand, melodramatic return to the White House following his four day hospitalization was the latest final straw.

“How much bullshit do you need in your life?!”

During very same broadcast in which he raged against BS, Cuomo extended a cordial invite to Anthony Scaramucci, a man who...

"It’s easy to say ‘don’t be afraid to jump out of this plane’ when you’re the only one with a parachute.”

Late-night hosts Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah, and Stephen Colbert blasted President Donald Trump for telling his followers not to be afraid of Covid-19 right before getting discharged from Walter Reed Hospital.

“Remember, he might get better from Covid, but he will never get better as a person,” said Seth Myers. “I mean, of course you can say ‘don’t be afraid of Covid.’ You have the best taxpayer-funded medical care in the world. It’s easy to say ‘don’t be afraid to jump out of this plane’ when you’re the only one with a parachute.”

“A massive outbreak at the White House is not karma, it’s consequences,” said Trevor Noah.

Colbert delivered with “Coming this fall from Aaron Sorkin: ‘The Infest Wing.’”
