If confirmed, media advisory with dial-in details will be emailed in advance. 30 January - 7 February 2023 WHO’s 152nd Executive Board Meeting continuation The 152nd session of the Executive Board (EB) is taking place right now, from 30 January – 7 February 2023 and will continue tomorrow. The EB public proceedings continue to be webcast from this page. The Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and to advise and generally facilitate its work. Monday, 6 February 2023 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) WHO will join partners in commemorating the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM. At least 200 million women and girls alive today have experienced FGM, which is an extreme form of discrimination, violates human rights, and causes serious health harms. WHO is working to raise awareness on the health risks associated with FGM and to tackle its increasing medicalization. Interviews are available with experts ahead of the Day. A factsheet on FGM can be found here 7-8 February 2023 Antimicrobial Resistance: meeting of the Global Leaders Group (GLG) Chaired by Her Excellency Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, the GLG is comprised of world leaders and experts from across sectors working together to accelerate political action on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) based on the One Health approach and achieve optimal and sustainable health outcomes for people, animals and ecosystems. The meeting will cover critical issues in the response to AMR, including financing, research and development, integrated surveillance, the role of the private sector, AMR and the environment, animal health and galvanizing political action to address AMR. The discussion will inform the process leading up to the 2024 UNGA high-level meeting on AMR at which the GLG will press for bold and specific commitments by member states. The sixth meeting of the GLG will take place in Barbados and will be their first in-person meeting. The GLG will formally welcome five new members during the meeting, with a diverse range of expertise, to strengthen the GLG’s efforts to galvanize political action to address AMR. Whilst this is a closed meeting, a formal meeting report, discussing meeting outcomes, will be available on the GLG website after the meeting. Tuesday, 7 February 2023 Member States and relevant stakeholders briefing in preparation for INB4 The Bureau of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) towards a convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (the pandemic accord) is convening two briefings to Member States The purpose of these briefings is to inform Member States and relevant stakeholders on the development, approach and structure of the Zero Draft of the pandemic accord, as well as to provide a proposal from the Bureau regarding modalities for the fourth meeting of the INB (INB4) (scheduled to take place from 27 February to 3 March 2023) and INB5 (3 to 6 April 2023). The zero draft of the pandemic accord was shared with Member States and relevant stakeholders on 1 February, and published on the WHO website. These briefings will be publicly webcast on this page. Related links: Read more about the INB here Wednesday, 8 February 2023 New Lancet Series on Breastfeeding On Wednesday, The Lancet will publish a special series containing critical new research on breastfeeding. Together, this three-paper series explores how breastfeeding is systematically undervalued by governments and public health, and exploited by the formula milk industry.
