Expanding our understanding of post COVID-19 condition webinar series: the evolving research landscape
Tuesday, 11 April, from 13.30 to 15.30 CEST
This webinar on post COVID-19 condition (or ‘long COVID’) will bring together a diverse group of experts from around the world to present a summary of the latest understanding of post COVID-19 condition, and the direction for future work in the area.
Millions of people around the world have been affected by post COVID-19 condition and the lingering symptoms that can affect their everyday lives. Much has been learned about this condition since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, significant gaps in our knowledge remain. WHO is committed to learning more, so that the needed treatments and rehabilitation can be developed.

Improving access to novel COVID-19 treatments

This briefing document is a factual explanation of some of the legal instruments that WHO Member States can use to promote public health and access to COVID 19 therapeutics in the framework of their multilateral trade obligations and rights, and according to their national legislation and level of development.
It is intended to support countries dealing with challenges at the intersection of public health and intellectual property, to increase access to novel COVID-19 therapeutics and to facilitate alternative and more affordable sourcing of such treatments, where possible.
The document will be posted on Publications (who.int) on 11 April.

Informal WHA76 pre-meeting for Member States, non-State actors in official relations with WHO and the Secretariat
Wednesday, 12 April, from 10.00 to 13.00 CEST
An informal seventy-sixth World Health Assembly (WHA76) pre-meeting will take place between 12 April and 2 May 2023, with sessions on 12 April, 24 April, 27 April and on 2 May. The aim of the meeting is to improve the involvement and contributions of non-State actors in official relation with WHO governing bodies, as outlined in the document EB150/37.
Issues on the agenda for the session on 12 April will include well-being and health promotion, social determinants of health, and engagement with civil society and youth.

World Chagas Disease Day 2023: The Need for Universal Care and Surveillance starting at Primary Care Level
Friday, 14 April
14 April is World Chagas Disease Day. This year's focus is on increasing awareness of Chagas, providing access to care, and implementing surveillance, beginning at the primary care level. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 6–7 million people worldwide are infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, the parasite that causes Chagas disease, leading to some 10,000 deaths every year.
In many countries, detection rates are low (less than 10% and often less than 1%) and people suffering with the disease often encounter significant barriers to adequate healthcare. Chagas disease is prevalent among poor populations of continental Latin America but is increasingly being detected in other countries and continents.

High-level antimicrobial resistance event: Forging partnerships between science and policy
Friday, 14 April, Copenhagen, Denmark, from 15.00 to 20.00 CEST
Jointly organized by the Global Leaders Group (GLG) and European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), this high-level, hybrid event aims to strengthen the links between research, policy and practice to generate sustainable solutions and a broader research agenda to address the pressing needs of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across all sectors (see the programme).
Keynote speeches by H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth, Crown Princess of Denmark; H.E. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados and Chair of the GLG; H.E. Sophie Løhde, Minister of the Interior and Health of Denmark; and Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. Participants will include heads of government and ministers across the One Health spectrum (human, animal, plant and environment sectors), as well as renowned scientists.
