Monday 19 SeptemberPublication of a new guide for the integration of perinatal mental healthThe guide outlines an evidence-informed approach describing how program managers, health service administrators and policy-makers responsible for planning and managing maternal and child health services can develop and sustain high-quality, integrated mental health services for women during the perinatal period. It brings together the best available evidence to support maternal and child health providers in promoting good mental health, identifying symptoms of mental health problems and responding in a way that is adapted to their context. The quality of maternal and child health services for all women can be improved by creating an environment where they feel safe to discuss any difficulties they are experiencing in a respectful and caring environment that is free from stigmatization. Tuesday 20 September - related UNGA side eventOn Tuesday from 16h-17.30h EST there is high-level side event titled ‘mental health promotion and prevention in schools and learning environments: an urgent call to action for world leaders and donors’. It is part of the ‘Transformation Education Summit’ co-hosted by UNICEF, WHO and UNESCO. At this event, a briefing note will be launched & published. It is for national governments & titled: Five essential pillars for promoting and protecting mental health and psychosocial well-being in schools and learning environments. Monday 19 SeptemberGlobal Evidence Review on Health and Migration (GEHM)Capturing the evidence on access to essential antibiotics in refugee and migrant populationsWHO will release the fourth report of the Global Evidence Review on Health and Migration (GEHM) which gathers available evidence on access to essential antibiotics in refugee and migrant populations. The publication captures evidence across four themes related to antibiotic access and use: access, appropriate use, barriers to access and use, and interventions to improve access and use. Based on the findings from the available evidence, the report sets forth policy considerations for improving access to and appropriate use of antibiotics in refugee and migrant populations while tackling AMR globally. 13 – 26 SeptemberWHO at the high-level session of the 77th UN General Assembly (UNGA)The 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will open on Tuesday, 13 September 2022 at the UN Headquarters in New York, in the first in-person format since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Heads of states and governments from 193 Member States will exchange statements in-person in the General Assembly Hall, on the theme “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges”. High-level events will include the annual Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment, the Transforming Education Summit, the commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities, a high-level plenary to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, and several Member State and partner side events, including WHO sponsored events. WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as other WHO officials, will take part in person and virtually in several of the events to advocate the importance of ensuring strong pandemic preparedness and response, as well as equitable access to vaccines and other COVID-19 tools in order to end the pandemic and to put the world back on the path towards achieving universal health coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
