In 1987, The Canberra Times cartoonist Geoff Pryor was awarded the coveted Walkley Award for his work. The important media award earned Mr Pryor recognition on this day on the front page of The Canberra Times. Pryor won the award with an election-based cartoon showing a running race with Prime Minister Bob Hawke being carried at the front on the shoulders of his cabinet colleagues, while behind him Opposition Leader John Howard was the one carrying his team.
